About Bolepur Bluez
On our way to re-create the ethnic traditional sound from the soil of West Bengal which is known as ‘Baul', we are a group of four musicians who are on a tryst to take this traditional Bengali music to an international platform, where we are amalgamating Baul with the age old traditional sound from the grass roots of the western countries, known as the 'Blues'.
Bolepur Bluez is a one of a kind band who not only has a vision with their music, but also creating a whole new genre by itself. We are the first “Baul Rock” act in the world. Bolepur Bluez is the quarter-finalist of India’s biggest Talent hunt - INDIA'S GOT TALENT - KHOJ 2 and have received accolades and appreciations from people around the world who had followed us on television. The Band released their debut album – The Soul Connection, internationally from EMI Records on December 2011 and it stayed on top of the charts for 3 months. The album has also been nominated Mirchi Music Awards 2012 & Zee Bangla Gourav Samman Awards 2012.

Tell us about the starting days of the band. Why the name
Bolepur Bluez?
In the year 2010, at around the month of June we visited Shantiniketan, which is another name for Bolpur. Fell in love with the place, and its content. Got to meet the Bauls of Bengal and also listen to their music. We instantly fell in love with their soulful songs, and our head started to brim ideas on how to make something unique with Baul music which has never been done before. We teamed up with other 3 members including a Baul singer and started jamming. We started re-creating the Baul songs by putting in influences of Blues, Rock and Funk in it. The songs started to take a whole brand new shape, and we decided to form a band. Thus, the name BOLEPUR BLUEZ.
- Can
you shed some light on your genre?
Our Genre of sound is World Music. Our styles range from Folk, to Jazz, to Blues to Rock. Whatever basically sound good to our ears, we try them out with the traditional Baul songs.
- Do
you stick to some theme while composing or writing music? Like some social
issues or personal experiences?
Baul songs themselves are based on the facts of life. Life and Death and beyond. We still have not written any self compositions, though we might do that in future. We pick and chose Baul songs written by various Baul artists, re-arrange and re-create them and present it to our audience.
- Who is in charge of the composing and who are behind the lyrics?
As mentioned before, the Baul songs that we chose and pick are traditional. They already have lyrics and contains its own melody. We just fuse them in a western style and re-create. Though, the new arrangements are totally done by the members of Bolepur Bluez solely.
- Tell
us something about your upcoming projects? What can we expect from it?
After the success of our super hit album 'The Soul Connection' which was released on Dec 2011, the Band has already started working on our next album. Currently its under production and have plans to be out next year. Well, you may expect a lot of surprises this time!
