Few words with Abir Chatterjee

  • Q. What/Who inspired you to get into acting and theater?

Born & brought up in acting family... I guess acting runs in my blood. I am the 3rd generation into acting, so it came to naturally.

  • Q.  Did you always dream of being into acting? If not what were your previous career choices as a teenager?

Not really,  though was not that interested in to all this while i was in school. Rather sports, to be specific cricket was my passion! Played sub junior & junior level club & district level cricket, & was a regular member of school cricket team.

  • Q. Do you think building a proper chemistry between your co-actors and crew is a necessity or do you belief in your line of profession the relationship should be completely professional?

You should definitely have a good rapport with your team. This is not a regular 9-5 job. we tend to spend more time with our team than we spend with our family. long strenuous schedules, outdoors... so if you are not comfortable working with this whole team, it won't help... now talking about chemistry, well u can't rehearse it. it just happens & translate big into the silver screen. all you can do is have very good understanding with your co-actors.. try to give him/her the much required space, because i truly believe that acting is nothing but give & take.  so better the understanding better the result. there is a fine line between professional & personal relationship. as a profession actor i try to maintain that. the switch on & off is required for perfect balance. but that doesn't mean that i don't have friends in my profession field.. but they are r few in numbers, but i do have a good, cordial working relation with almost everybody :)

  • Q. Do you think the commercial movies of the current generation is becoming very unrealistic and distributing improper messages amongst younger people?

what do actually mean by commercial film? if you want to say the mainstream, big-budget films... well they were always meant to entertain you. kind of escapism & larger than life stuff was always a part of these films...& i quite like it that way... so why blaming current scenario?

  • Q. Tell us something about your upcoming projects? Can we expect another installment of your famous BOMKESH BOKSHI series?

  1. Asharey Goppo directed by Arindam Chakraborty, co-starring Rudranil & Payel.
  2. Asbo Arekdin directed by Abhjijit Dasgupta, co-starring Swastika, Rupa Ganguly, Gaurav Chakraborty & Ridhhima
  3. Hrid Majharey directed by debutant Ranjan Ghosh, co-starring Raima
  4. Bomkesh (3rd film from the franchise, based on Saradindu Bandopadhyay’s bomkesh story Benisonghar) directed by Anjan Dutta, co=starring Saswata Chatterjee, Rahul Banerjee, Ushasi Chakraborty. This flim is on postproduction stage, further details is available with the director onlyJ
  5. Untitled film produced jointly by  Neeraj Pandey’s production house Friday Filmworks & VIacom 18... co-starring Jeet, Priyanka, Shradhha Das

  • Q. Do you think it is important for young inspiring actors to start off performing in theaters and plays initially before coming into acting on screen?

Though i am from theater family & have done stage occasionally while in school, i don't see myself as a stage actor.  but u can never say never ;) but to be very honest theater do give a solid training for further development. its perhaps the best way to learn the nuances of acting... saying all this i will request all youngsters, not to use theatre just as a stepping stone...do it if you love it... if you have the passion for stage, not just a training module.

  • Q. Apart from acting what field of media or academics would be your career choice? If others please specify.

well i did my MBA in finance & was with share market for quite a few years....

  • Q. Do you belief in technical efficiency or creative output in your line of work?

a perfect mix of these two... hahaha,,,well that's the ideal situation, seldom happens in reality. but if you ask me i will put creative output prior to technical; efficiency... you should know the right technique, which will enhance your creative side...only technology can create wonders but won't last long..

  • Q. How do you balance your personal chores and your professional projects?

whatever i do, i know family comes first.... simple!!thanks to all my friends for being there. without the love & support from my loved ones i don't stand anywhere... you may be successful in your professional field, but at the end of the day if u cant share the happiness with your close ones, what's the bloody use? & in tough times be rest assured, its only them who will be thr near you...so betetr take a chill pill... be focused to your professional goals, give whatever it takes to reach there, but keep your loved ones closest to your heart...

  • Q. Few words about EVOLVE.
